Cambodia's three major political parties have agreed to form a tripartite government with Prime Minister Hun Sen as leader, the premier's adviser Om Yentieng said after the three-party talks concluded on Wednesday.

"The three main parties have agreed to form the National assembly with a tripartite government with Hun Sen as the next prime minister," said the official.

"The King played very essential role for the agreement," he added.

The agreement was reached at the meeting chaired by King Norodom Sihanouk to break the political deadlock that has prolonged since July general election.

He said "Two committees -- committee for study the national assembly and committee for study the political programs and strategies -- have been set up to solve the problem. There will be five members from each three-party in each committee."

"That the agreement on a power-sharing deal is we will have tripartite government. We still have many things to work on," SRP spokesman Ong Bun Ang told reporters. "We are very happy."

The talks were held inside the Royal Palace and attended by six delegates from the ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP), three delegates from royalist FUNCINPEC party and 3 delegates from the Sam Rainsy Party (SRP).
