Hong Kong Chief Executive Tung Chee-hwa said over the weekend that he gave a detailed account of the territory's improved economy and the drop in unemployment to Premier Wen Jiabao at the second annual conference of the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA).
He said the signing of CEPA has provided a platform for further co-operation with the Pearl River Delta and more recently with Shanghai, which along with an influx of individual mainland tourists have brought renewed confidence to the city.
Premier Wen is pleased with the new developments and stressed that stability in the territory is essential for economic growth, Tung said.
The chief executive said he thanked Wen on behalf of Hong Kong's citizens for bringing the first Chinese astronaut Yang Liwei on a visit to the city.
Yang's successful space voyage symbolized China's emergence as a global power.
Tung stressed the importance of mainland's individual tourist influx to Hong Kong.
He said the forum, held in China's southeast Hainan Province, provided an opportunity for leaders to discuss new possibilities of Asian co-operation to generate a win-win situation, ensuring mutual benefit and prosperity.
