Chirac, Putin to meet on Friday

Russian President Vladimir Putin will hold talks with his French counterpart Jacques Chirac on Friday during a brief visit to Paris, the French presidential office said Monday.

Russian President Vladimir Putin will hold talks with his French counterpart Jacques Chirac on Friday during a brief visit to Paris, the French presidential office said Monday.

The meeting between the two leaders is scheduled to start at about noon on Friday, followed by a working lunch. After that, Putin will fly back to Moscow.

The visit to Paris will be part of Putin's European tour which also includes Rome. He will arrive in the Italian capital on Wednesday and meet Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi. Putin will also attend a Russia-EU summit in Rome starting on Thursday.

Italy currently holds the rotating European Union presidency.
