Five missing miners in NE China confirmed dead

The five miners, who were reported missing after a coal mine explosion in northeast China's Jilin Province Friday, have been confirmed dead, rescuers said Sunday.

The five miners, who were reported missing after a coal mine explosion in northeast China's Jilin Province Friday, have been confirmed dead, rescuers said Sunday.

Their bodies were found and recovered by rescuers at 1 a.m. Sunday, according to an official in charge of the rescue work.

The gas explosion occurred at 2:30 a.m. Friday at the Anshun Coal Mine in Huajiao Township, Huadian City, when six miners were working underground. One managed to escape and the five others were missing.

After the accident, all the 37 coal mines in Huadian City were ordered to suspend production for safety examinations.

Investigation into the cause of the gas explosion is still going on.
