Fidel Ramos, chairman of the board of the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA), Friday underlined the important role China plays in advancing Asia's economic integration process.

The free trade zone which is to be set up in 2010 between Chinaand the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is an important step in the process of Asia's economic integration, saidRamos, former president of the Philippines, at a press conference held prior to the opening of the 2003 BFA annual conference in Boao, in southern China's Hainan Province.
