The Shanghai World Expo Coordination Bureau was established Thursday for the preparation of the Shanghai World Expo, which will be opened on May 1, 2010.

Zhou Yupeng, Vice Mayor of Shanghai, was appointed director of the bureau.
Shanghai Mayor Han Zheng said the establishment of the bureau signals that the city's preparation for the Expo has entered a newstage.
He stressed that the final success of the 2010 Shanghai World Expo requires fine organization by the municipal government, active participation by citizens and enthusiastic support by all sectors of society.
Gilles Noghes, director of the Bureau of International Exhibition (BIE), said the World Expo in the 21st century should help predict and solve humankind's future challenges and difficulties, through advanced technology.
For the Expo preparation, Shanghai will establish another two preparation organizations in the near future, including the Shanghai World Expo Land Reserve Center and Shanghai World Expo Group.
