Dialogue is the only way to solve the boundary issue between India and China and "things are developing in the correct direction", Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee made this remark to the media on October 29 after his 3-day inspection in the state of Nagaland before his arrival in New Delhi.

Vajpayee said that the negotiations of the boundary question between India and China are underway and special representatives are assigned by the two countries to hold discussions on the issue. Currently, the two countries have completed the first meeting and are making plans for the next one.

When asked for his comment on Indian Defense Minister George Fernandes' ever taking China as "the primary enemy", Vajpayee said that Fernandes has cleared up his position himself, that is he has never regarded China as the major threat to India and said that "India is not threatened."
