It is rather complicated, the Korean nuclear issue must be solved peacefully through talks, whatever trouble or turbulence may be met along the way, said Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress in his meeting with his DPRK counterpart Kim Yong-nam Wednesday.
The three-way talks and six-party talks held in Beijing this year have played an important role in preventing further deterioration of the situation, Wu told Kim, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).
Kim made positive comments about China's important role in helping solve the issue in peaceful way and elaborated on the DPRK's principal stance.
China would like, together with the DPRK, to make unremitted efforts for the peaceful solution to Korean nuclear issue, said Wu while delivering a speech before a banquet in his honour hosted by Kim.
Top legislator arrives in Pyongyang for official visit
Wu is China's highest-level official to pay an official goodwill visit to DPRK in more than two years. Former President Jiang Zemin visited Pyongyang in September of 2001.
To maintain peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula conforms to the fundamental interests of China and the DPRK, said Wu.
China supports the DPRK and the Republic of Korea in their efforts to improve bilateral relations and to realize the peaceful reunification of the peninsula.
Sino-DPRK relations are an important component of China's foreign policy, and the country's new leadership will continue the traditional friendship between the two sides and implement further friendly policies towards the DPRK, Wu stressed.
In his speech, Wu also called for the two sides to maintain high-level exchanges of important information.
The two sides should seek further economic and trade co-operation and China will continue, within its ability, to provide aid to the DPRK, Wu said. At the same time, China will encourage its enterprises to conduct mutually beneficial co-operation with the DPRK.
In addition, the two nations should enhance co-operation and exchanges in dealing with international and regional issues so as to play a positive role in maintaining regional and world peace and stability, he added.
Kim praised Wu's visit as a demonstration of the deep friendship between the Korean and Chinese peoples, saying that the DPRK-Chinese relations conform to the interests of both peoples as well as to the peace and security of Asia and the world.
It is a consistent policy of the DPRK party and government to keep up friendship relations with China, he added, further saying that the DPRK will strengthen, expand and deepen co-operation with China in all fields.
Kim praised China's great achievement under its new leadership and expressed gratitude towards China for its selfless aid provided to the DPRK over the past years.
Wu, who arrived here earlier Wednesday, headed China's state delegation for a three-day official goodwill visit at the invitation of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly Presidium and the DPRK cabinet.
