Earthquake-torn counties receive 16m yuan relief fund
The quake-hit areas in northwest China's Gansu province received a total of 16.06 million yuan (1.93 million US dollars) in emergency relief funds Monday.

Besides the seven million yuan jointly earmarked by the Ministry of Civil Affairs and the Ministry of Finance, the rest was provided by the governments of Gansu Province, Zhangye City and Minle and Shandan counties.
In addition, as of noon Monday, Minle and Shandan had received donations of about 210,000 yuan (25,300 US dollars).
Two thousand cotton-padded tents from the Ministry of Civil Affairs were on the way to the quake-hit region where night temperatures were as low as five to six degrees below zero.
As of Monday night, Minle and Shandan had received over 500 tents, 25 tons of coal, 10 tons of food and 600 boxes of medicine, said Zhang Zhengqian, a senior official of Zhangye City.
"At least 1,200 local residents can stay in tents tonight," said Huang Xuzu, director of the Gansu Provincial Bureau of Civil Affairs.
According to the Ministry of Civil Affairs, the twin tremors struck 22 towns in Minle, Shandan and Sunan counties, all in Gansu, claimed nine lives and injured over 40, affecting a total of population of 137,000.
As of 6:00 p.m. Monday, over 400 aftershocks had occurred in Minle and Shandan counties as rescue and renovation continued.
