China, Brazil ready for second space launch

China's State Spaceflight Bureau has announced that the Sino-Brazilian Earth Resources Satellite-2 (CBERS) jointly developed by the two countries has been moved to the launch site on its CZ-4B carrier rocket.

The CBERS 2 satellite will be launched from north China's Taiyuan Satellite Launching Center on Tuesday or Wednesday.

It is part of the two countries' joint space program to monitor climate and environmental change.

The CBERS 2 satellite will continue the monitoring mission carried out by the CBERS 1, which was sent into space in 1999 to monitor deforestation in the Amazon jungle, weather patterns and agricultural crops.

The two countries launched the first earth resources satellite,which has outlived its planned service lifetime, in 1999 to send back data widely used in China and Brazil.

The two countries are working on the No. 3 and No. 4 resources satellites.

Under the agreement between the two countries, China will launch the No. 3 resources satellite while Brazil will launch the No.4 satellite.
