Iranian President Seyed Mohammad Khatami said Friday in Putrajaya that Iran has no intention to develop nuclear bombs.
He made the remarks at a press conference held here before the closing of the two-day 10th session of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) summit aimed at revitalization of Islamic countries.
Khatami said Iran is ready to fully cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on its overall inspection of Iran's nuclear programs. He said the gesture will tell the IAEA that "nothing is wrong in Iran."
The Iranian president said Iran's nuclear program is aimed at peaceful use of nuclear energy, claiming Iran never seeks wars with other countries.
He said it is the legislative right of every signatory country of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) to be given access to developing their nuclear energy for peaceful purpose.
Iran has never claimed that it would not sign the NPT additional protocol, Khatami said, adding serious discussions are underway in preparation for the signing of the additional protocol.
The Iranian president also accused the United States of adopting double standards on the nuclear issue.
On Iran's nuclear program, he said Iran has good relations with Russia as the two countries share common interests.
Concerning the Iraq issue, he said Iran opposes any military action for settlement of any international disputes.
He said he believed that the United States would not launch a preemptive strike against Iran in the near future, "as the US has already got into deep trouble in Iraq now" and it should draw lessons from it and "should not make the second and the third mistakes."
On the unity among Islamic countries, a topic under much discussion during the two-day OIC summit, Khatami said Islamic countries should take collective efforts in promoting science and technology, in an effort to narrow the gap with the developed countries.
He said dialogue between the Islamic and western civilizations is possible for removing misunderstanding.
