Chinese president arrives in Bangkok
Chinese President Hu Jintao arrived in Bangkok Friday afternoon at the start of a state visit to Thailand. During his stay here, the Chinese president will also attend the 11th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Economic Leaders Meeting next week. After Thailand, Hu is scheduled to travel on to Australia and New Zealand.
Chinese President Hu Jintao arrived in the Thai capital of Bangkok on Friday for a state visit aimed at furthering friendly cooperation between China and Thailand.
During his stay in Bangkok, Hu will also attend the informal economic leaders' meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation(APEC) scheduled for Oct. 20-21.
Hu was met at the airport by Thai Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn and Princess Sirindhorn, Deputy Prime Ministers Chavalit Yongchaiyudh and Korn Dabbaransi, Chinese Ambassador to Thailand Yan Tingai, and representatives of the Chinese Embassy and the local Chinese community.
In a written statement issued upon his arrival, Hu said China and Thailand are good neighbors, good friends and good partners, and the two peoples enjoy a traditional kinship-like friendship that traces back to ancient times.
Since the establishment of full diplomatic relations over 28 year ago, China and Thailand have conducted frequent high-level exchange of visits and scored remarkable achievements in mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields, he said.
"The friendship between China and Thailand has taken root in the hearts of our two peoples," Hu said.
He said China attaches importance to the furtherance of its friendship with Thailand and stands ready to push all-round cooperation of good neighborliness and mutual trust to a new high.
Hu said that during the visit he will meet Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadej, members of the royal family, Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra and other officials to exchange views on ways to further strengthen the bilateral cooperation and on other issues of mutual interests.
The Chinese president said he will also meet people from all walks of life in Thailand.
"I believe my visit will enhance the friendship between our twopeoples," he said.
Thailand is the first leg of Hu's three-nation tour which will also take him to Australia and New Zealand.
