US President George W. Bush arrived Friday afternoon in Tokyo, starting a short visit to Japan.
Bush is expected to talk with Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi on some mutual concerns, including the nuclear weapons programs of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and Japan's aid for the post-war reconstruction of Iraq.
Koizumi said Wednesday he was looking forward to discussing the Iraqi issue with Bush, according to Kyodo News.
Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary Yasuo Fukuda unveiled Wednesday a plan that Japan would provide 1.5 billion US dollars in grants in 2004 for Iraqi reconstruction. Bush, who is campaigning for international financial aid and troops to ease US burden in Iraq, hailed the decision after the announcement.
This is the summit between the two leaders after the one in Texas in May.
Bush is scheduled to leave Japan Saturday morning, paying a swift visit to the Philippines before heading for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting scheduled for Oct. 20-21 in the Thai capital of Bangkok.
