Collapsed houses claim 11 lives in Shaanxi

Continuous rains over the past four days flattened several houses in some rural areas of northwest China's Shaanxi Province, resulting the death of 11 people.

Continuous rains over the past four days flattened several houses in some rural areas of northwest China's Shaanxi Province, resulting the death of 11 people.

According to the provincial flood control department, continuous heavy rains hit most parts of Shaanxi in the past four days.

The houses of Zhao Hongqi, a farmer of Chidong Village in Heyang County, tumbled all of a sudden early Saturday morning, killing his wife and two sons.

On Friday morning, a house in Yucun Village of Longxian County collapsed, killing one people on the spot and seriously injured three others, who later died in a local hospital.

A wall of a house collapsed at around 10:00 a.m. Friday in Dongping Village, Eryuhe Town of Shanyang County, killing four people and injuring one.

The provincial headquarters for flood control has ordered localflood control departments to make a thorough inspection on houses in rural areas to remove possible threat on the lives of rural residents.
