Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi stressed Wednesday in Bali that Japan sees China's remarkable economic growth as an opportunity rather than a threat.

"As I have been saying, China's remarkable growth is not seen as a threat but rather an opportunity for Japan," Koizumi told a press conference Wednesday afternoon at a hotel next to the venue of the ninth summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in Bali.

The Japanese prime minister also said that he and his Chinese counterpart Wen Jiabao have agreed to strengthen the future-oriented bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

Koizumi arrived here on Monday to hold a series of meetings with leaders of the ASEAN member countries and China, South Korea and India as part of the ASEAN summit.
