Fund to help SARS victims to be set up: HK health chief

An emergency fund will soon be set up to assist families affected by Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), Secretary for Health, Welfare and Food Yeoh Eng-kiong said here Monday.

An emergency fund will soon be set up to assist families affected by Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), Secretary for Health, Welfare and Food Yeoh Eng-kiong said here Monday.

Speaking at the Health Panel Services meeting in the Legislative Council, Yeoh said once the decision is made, the government will seek funding support from the Legislative Council's Finance Committee.

He also said the welfare department and Hospital Authority are now reviewing the assistance it provides to families affected by SARS to better help the victims.

At the meeting, Yeoh once again offered his apology, saying that he has seriously considered ways of shouldering the responsibility during the SARS outbreak.
