Fortune releases list of top 50 US business women
Carly Fiorina, chairman and CEO of Hewlett-Packard, a leading provider of office technology equipment, has been listed as the No.1 in the latest Fortune Magazine's annual ranking of the 50 most powerful US business women.
Carly Fiorina, chairman and CEO of Hewlett-Packard, a leading provider of office technology equipment, has been listed as the No.1 in the latest Fortune Magazine's annual ranking of the 50 most powerful US business women.
The latest issue of Fortune published this weekend said that as head of a 72-billion-dollar company, Carly is undeniably the most powerful woman in business, adding that Carly has proved that she is a world-class risk taker.
Meg Whitman, president and CEO of eBay, a popular Internet trading platform, has made her way to the second in the ranking.
Whitman has lured an army of active users as big as the population of California, and they are expected to spend 20 billion US dollars on the site in 2003, said the magazine.
The third top US business woman is Andrea Jung, chairman and CEO of the Avon Products. She was born in Canada with a Chinese background.
No.4 is Anne Mulcahy, chairman and CEO of Xerox. Mulcahy has helped the company restore profitability, secured new financing and boosted equipment sales.
Marjorie Magner, chairman and CEO of the Global Consumer Group of the Citigroup, has been listed as the fifth top business woman in the United States.
The Fortune magazine launched the ranking in 1998. It judges the candidates by four key criteria including the size and importance of the woman's business in the global economy, her influence on mass culture and society, her clout inside the company, how quickly she has risen and where she's likely to go.
The magazine said it becomes more and more difficult to win a spot on this list.
