Pakistani Foreign Ministry spokesman on Monday said that Islamabad regretted India's statement on Pakistan's offer of truce along the Line of Control (LoC) in disputed Kashmir.

President Pervez Musharraf during his UN address last week madean offer of truce in Kashmir and gave a roadmap for peace in the sub-continent to address the issues between India and Pakistan, said the spokesman, noting that the rejection of the offer for peace by India was "regrettable."

At a weekly news briefing on Monday, the spokesman said while Musharraf offered engagement, Indian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee who reached out his "hand of friendship" to Pakistan in April offered estrangement and tension at the UN General Assembly last week.

Vajpayee rejected Musharraf's offer of truce along LoC and stressed that his country would not negotiate with terrorism as the world did not negotiate with Taliban or al-Qaeda.

The spokesman said the peace process in the subcontinent has not started and urged India to restart substantial dialogue to resolve all disputes with Pakistan on the basis of equality and without any conditions.

India has offered talks with Islamabad and it should take follow-up concrete measures to restart dialogue with Pakistan, said the spokesman.
