Union Minister of State for Home I.D. Swami Sunday said that India would prefer to resume air links with Pakistan and then think of resumption of rail links.

"India would favor first resuming air links with Pakistan and efforts were on in this regard," he told reporters here.

No doubt the ongoing peace process between the two nations had slowed down since the Indian team which went to Pakistan particularly for the resumption of air links did not make any headway but that does not mean there is a deadlock on the issue, Swami said.

Hailing the foreign tour of Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, he said the firmness and inflexible approach against terrorism announced by Vajpayee had been praised globally.

He said it was the turn of Pakistan to create a conducive atmosphere to give a push to "peace talks," otherwise it would be difficult for India to proceed further in this direction.

"India would always put pressure to stop cross border terrorism and proxy war which is going on for the last 20 years. Now it has become a challenge for the country and it would be stopped by all possible means," he added.
