Fifteen senior officials from 12 procurement departments of the United Nations (UN) will introduce to Chinese enterprises how to become potential UN providers from Oct. 12 to 13 in the national capital of Beijing and from Oct. 15 to 17 in south China's Guangdong province respectively.
There is enormous space for Chinese firms to become potential UN providers, for the United Nations procured a large amount of China-made goods, but most of them were bought from a third party, said Toshihiro Tanaka, deputy resident representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) China office, at a press conference here on Sunday.
Statistics show that procurement volume of the UN Agencies totaled 4.56 billion US dollars in 2002, and procurement volume from China only accounted for 0.71 percent, far less than 3.9 percent of Panama, the top UN provider among developing countries.
The conferences on UN procurement are held jointly by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce and the Beijing municipal government.
