The US forces fired on two cars that tried to run through a checkpoint in central Iraq, killing two Iraqi civilians, the military confirmed on Saturday.
Four others were wounded in the incident which took place on Friday evening in Fallujah, 50 km west of Baghdad, according to a US military spokesman.
Arab television reported four were killed and five injured in the shooting. Qatar-based TV channel showed a footage of a teenage girl among the wounded.
On Sept. 12, eight Iraqi policemen and a Jordanian security guard were killed by US fire at a checkpoint in the restive area, where the US troops were most frequently targeted.
Nervous about the constant anti-American attacks, US soldiers guarding checkpoints in Iraq sometimes opened fire on civilian vehicles and caused innocent casualties.
