China captain Sun Wen vows to fight with injury
China skipper Sun Wen, who scored the winner in Monday's victory over Ghana, said she can cope with a knee injury in their World Cup Group D game against Australia on Thursday.
China skipper Sun Wen, who scored the winner in Monday's victory over Ghana, said she can cope with a knee injury in their World Cup Group D game against Australia on Thursday.
"No problem. Of course I can play on Thursday," said the 30-year-old, whose right knee was heavily bandaged with ice.
She attended China's afternoon training outside the Home Depot Center, but only had some running.
Sun said it was an old injury suffered for the first time in mid 1990s. "It was a chronic problem and has been bothering me formany years. I have been used to it."
Monday's goal was Sun's 106th in her career and 11th in World Cup play. She need only one more to beat the World Cup record on Thursday.
"I never think of the record," she said. "Winning the game is the most important thing."
Sun had a tournament-leading seven goals in the 1999 World Cup and was named the most valuable player after the epic final against the eventual winner the United States at the Rose Bowl here.
