Thousands of Buddhists from different parts of China attended a grand assembly Monday morning in the Lingguang Temple in western Beijing to mark the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Buddhist Association of China (BAC).
In the Lingguang Temple was enshrined a piece of tooth from Sakyamuni, the founder of Buddhism, which has been sent to other countries including Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Thailand for worship in the past decades.
The grand assembly was accompanied by classical Buddhist ritual music and chants, creating a festive atmosphere inside and around the temple.
Master Shenghui, the host of the assembly, said Buddhism has achieved great development in China during the past five decades. He called on the attendees to pray for the peace and well-being ofthe homeland as well as of the whole world.
Buddhism was introduced into China more than 2,000 years ago, and has produced important effects on Chinese traditional culture.
