2010 World Expo to be historically significant: BIE secretary-general

A senior official from the Bureau of International Expositions (BIE) voiced his belief Thursday that the 2010 World Exposition in Shanghai would be significant in the history of the world exposition.

A senior official from the Bureau of International Expositions (BIE) voiced his belief Thursday that the 2010 World Exposition in Shanghai would be significant in the history of the world exposition.

Vicente Gonzalez Loscertales, BIE secretary-general, made the remarks in a meeting with Chinese Vice Premier Wu Yi.

Loscertales said that the work done by the Shanghai government had impressed him and he was convinced that Shanghai is capable of facing the challenges of hosting a world expo.

Wu expressed appreciation for the efforts Loscertales has made to promote the relations between China and the BIE.

She said that 2010 World Exposition is the first registered world expo hosted by a developing country, and the Chinese government attached importance to this opportunity, and will try its best to host a successful and unforgettable world exposition.

Loscertales came to China to inspect the preparatory work for the exposition at the invitation of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade.
