Papua New Guinean (PNG) Prime Minister Michael Thomas Somare said Tuesday that his country sticks to One-China policy.
"Taiwan is a province of China and PNG will not have official contact of any kind with Taiwan," the prime minister said at a meeting here with Liu Yunshan, a member of the Political Bureau ofthe Communist Party of China (CPC).
Somare, also head of the ruling National Alliance party, said his party is willing to tighten ties with the CPC in an effort to promote the relations between the two countries.
He thanked the Chinese government and its people for their great assistance accorded to PNG in its economic development.
Liu, also a member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee and head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, congratulated PNG on its 28th Independence Day which falls on Tuesday.
He also expressed his appreciation with PNG government's pursuit of One-China policy.
He said the Chinese government values high the Sino-PNG friendship and is willing to promote, in a joint effort with PNG, the relations between the two countries and political parties on the basis of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit.
Liu and his entourage arrived here on Tuesday on a five-day official visit at the invitation by the National Alliance party.
