A batch of ambitious employment projects which aims to provide work for at least 10,000 unemployed are expected to be launched soon in Shanghai.

Shanghai Mayor Han Zheng said on Monday at a meeting on re-employment the projects will be an important channel to reduce unemployment.

A source from the city's social security department said the municipal government will create 10,000 job opportunities in transport management, traffic facility maintenance, logistics and environmental protection.

To date, the unemployment situation in Shanghai is still severe.Earlier this year, the Shanghai Municipal Government stipulated that at least 400,000 job opportunities have to be created this year to bring its urban registered unemployment rate below 5 percent.
