China Sweeps Korea Open Table Tennis Championships

The Chinese paddlers displayed their upperhands by winning all titles from the Vokswagen Korea Open table tennis championships in its southern island of Jeju on Sunday.

The Chinese paddlers displayed their upperhands by winning all titles from the Vokswagen Korea Open table tennis championships in its southern island of Jeju on Sunday.

Chinese top seed Ma Lin became the double winner as he cruised over teamate Chen Qi 4-2 to take the men's singles crown and paired with Chen for the men's doubles title by another 4-2.

The 19-year-old Chen started the final by taking the first two sets, boosting the chance of winning his first pro tour title.

However, Ma exploited his experience by taming down the rookie from the third game, and winning four sets in a row for a huge rally-from-behind victory 10-12, 9-11, 11-8, 11-7, 11-4 and 11-9.

In the men's doubles, the Chinese duo of Ma and Chen defeated Ko Lai Chak and Li Ching of Hong Kong, China 11-6, 11-3, 8-11, 11-5, 9-11 and 11-3.

Earlier in the men's singles semifinals, Chang Peng-Lung of Chinese Taipei was stopped by Ma Lin 11-4, 11-3, 11-7, 6-11, 11-3 and Kong Linghui suffere a defeat against his fellow Chinese Chen Qi 7-11, 11-5, 10-12, 11-8, 11-8 and 11-7.

In the women's singles, Guo Yuan, a winner over fellow Chinese Niu Jianfeng in the semifinal 10-12, 11-7, 11-7, 11-8 and 11-1, defeated Austrian Liu Jia 11-4, 11-6, 11-5 and 11-9 for the top honor.

Second seed Lin Ling of Hong Kong, China was eliminated by Liu Jia in the other semifinal 11-6, 12-14, 7-11, 11-9, 11-8 and 12-10.

The women's doubles title also went to China as its pair Guo Yue and Niu Jianfeng beat Singapore's Jing Jun Hong and Li Jia Wei10-12, 11-7, 11-7, 11-8 and 11-1.
