IOC Lavishes Praise on Beijing's Preparations for 2008 Games
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thursday gave a resounding thumbs-up to Beijing's preparations for the 2008 Olympic Games after winding up a three-day meeting with Beijing Olympics Organizing Committee (BOCOG).
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thursday gave a resounding thumbs-up to Beijing's preparations for the 2008 Olympic Games after winding up a three-day meeting with Beijing Olympics Organizing Committee (BOCOG).
Hein Verbruggen, IOC's Coordination Commission chairman, told apress conference Thursday that BOCOG has achieved "three key goals" for 2003 by securing the start of construction by the end of theyear, signing the agreement to establish the Beijing Olympic Broadcasting Co. Ltd. and launching the emblem and marketing program.
"Overall, we're extremely, extremely pleased with the progress that has been made, and we're very happy with the organization that has been set up here," said Verbruggen.
During the second meeting between IOC's Coordination Commissionand BOCOG, the two sides exchanged views on a variety of subjects,including sports, venue construction, marketing, communications, accommodation, technology, finance, accreditation and transport.
Verbruggen also spoke highly of the "excellent" relationship between the Coordination Commission and BOCOG.
"There're a great number of professionals working (in BOCOG) and we feel they're very open, very receptive for our advice," said Verbruggen.
BOCOG vice president Jiang Xiaoyu expressed his gratitude to the Coordination Commission for making a great contribution to thecity's preparations for the 2008 Games.
"I believe that we will make even greater progress in our preparations for the Olympic Games through our closer and franker cooperation," he said.
