The All-China Federation of Trade Unions (ACFTU), the leading body of all local trade unions and national industrial trade unions, is preparing for its 14th National Congress, scheduled to open on Sept. 22.

The national congress will be a great event for trade unions in China and the political life of Chinese workers, said Wang Zhaoguo, ACFTU president and vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC), at the six session of the 13th ACFTU Executive Committee held here Wednesday.

At the coming congress, the ACFTU will amend its constitution.

The ACFTU will place more importance on protecting the legal rights and interests of workers, especially their rights in job-seeking, payment, social insurance, health and work safety, Wang said.

The organization will also try its best to lobby the administrations and Party organs for further policy support and urge employers to guarantee the legal rights and interests of employees, he added.

Preparation for the national congress, which is held every five years, is going well, he said.

The ACFTU, formally founded on May 1, 1925 in Guangzhou, south China's Guangdong Province, has established ties with trade unions of various political orientations in over 130 countries and regions.
