The first session of the 11th Democratic People's Republic of Korea's (DPRK's) Supreme People's Assembly ended in Pyongyang on Wednesday after electing a new state leadership.

In the most noteworthy change, Park Pong Ju replaced Hong Song Nam as the new cabinet premier, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported.

Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, the DPRK's top legislative body, retains his post.

Paek Nam Sun will serve as foreign minister for another five years.

There is no major change to the National Defense Commission list, with Kim Jong Il reelected as chairman of the National Defense Commission (NDC), the top military body of the DPRK. Jo Myong Rok retains his post as vice-chairman of the NDC.

When taking the oath of office as premier, Park Pong Ju said the cabinet will work out "scientific and bold" economic strategy and operational plan as required by the new century, and dynamically implement them to build up strong national power.

The cabinet will give priority to the development of the national defense industry, Park stressed.
