Guangzhou Resumes Reporting System to Prevent SARS Return

Guangzhou will from September 1 resume the reporting system of SARS cases, as is known from the city's meeting on public health work. A project of epidemic prevention, treatment and information systems of Guangzhou characteristics has been approved and will be totally completed in three years. By then the city will be able to deal with SARS confidently and calmly.

South China's Guangzhou will from September 1 resume the reporting system of SARS cases, as is known from the city's meeting on public health work. A project of epidemic prevention, treatment and information systems of Guangzhou characteristics has been approved and will be totally completed in three years. By then the city will be able to deal with SARS confidently and calmly.

The deadly disease is likely to return this winter and next spring since no breakthrough is made in detecting means, special medicine and vaccine, said Huang Jionglie, director of the city's public health bureau, so prevention work remains the top priority.

A batch of key hospitals during the SARS fight will be kept or reserved for future SARS treatment and flu vaccine injection will be started this winter and next early spring. Hospitals above second-level must set up contagious disease department as well as special rooms for separation and medical observation.
