Chinese President Hu Jintao has urged officials at all levels to carry on the revolutionary tradition of the Communist Party of China (CPC) while striving to lead the general public towards the goal of creating a well-off society.
Hu, also general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks during an inspection tour from Aug. 28 to Sept. 1 to east China's Jiangxi Province, one of the revolutionary cradles of the CPC.
"Comrade Mao Zedong and other revolutionaries of the elder generation had not only made historical achievements by realizing national independence and liberation but also left us with precious spiritual wealth," said Hu, stressing such revolutionary spirit and tradition, which were fostered through arduous struggles, remain a strong spiritual strength for overcoming difficulties and risks of all kinds in our way forward.
On the occasion this year of the 110th anniversary of the birth of Mao, all party members and the general public should be encouraged to learn from the lofty spirit of the older generation of revolutionaries in order to further push forward the grand cause of seeking better lives for the public, for which the party has been striving for decades, said Hu.
The Party should serve the public and the administration should serve the people, said Hu, pointing out that this reflects the tenet of the Party and the nature of the important thought of "Three Represents", which was put forward by Jiang Zemin.
"To put this point into practice means to sincerely serve the interests of the people and help solve problems they may encounter in their daily lives," said Hu. "To be specific at the present stage, that means trying every means to create job opportunities, reduce farmers' burdens, alleviate poverty and guarantee safe industrial production."
He said officials at all levels should be fully aware of the primary task of the Party of seeking development, stressing that a scientific concept should be established to achieve harmonious, sustained overall development.
