China's top legislator Wu Bangguo said Sunday that China appreciates the Philippine parliament's adherence to the one-China policy.
Wu, chairman of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, made the remarks while holding talks with Philippine House of Representatives Speaker Jose de Venecia.
China hopes the Philippine parliament to unswervingly and properly handle the Taiwan issue, said Wu, who and the NPC delegation he leads are here for a four-day official visit to the Philippines.
De Venecia said the Philippine parliament, like the Philippine government, sticks to the one-China principle and believes that Taiwan "is an inalienable part of China."
The two leaders also talked about the issue of the South China Sea. Wu said the Chinese side is willing to promptly implement the follow-up work of the Declaration of the Conduct of Parties in theSouth China Sea along with other countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), including the Philippines, so as to carry out concrete cooperation in the region.
De Venecia said the Philippines will abide by the code and have the willingness to carry out joint development in the South China Sea.
China and the ASEAN inked the code of conduct in the South China Sea last November in Phnom Penh at the sixth China-ASEAN (10+1) Summit.
