Chinese volleyball team successfully defended their title in the women's event on Saturdayat the 22nd World University Games here.
The team, composed with students from the Tianjin Nankai University, overpowered the Chinese Taipei 3-0 in 67 minutes in a lopsided final.
"This is the first time my team stand on the top of the podium in an international sports meet.
"We are so happy about the victory after years of hard work," said coach Xing Chungui, who is a teacher of physical education with Nankai.
Nankai represented China to compete in the 19th Universiade in Italy in 1997 when they finished eighth.
The Chinese team, which are physically much higher and stronger than their opponents, took control of the game right from the start as they eased to a 25-11 opening set win in merely 18 minutes.
They continued their dominance on the court with powerful spikes and tough blocks as they soon won the following two sets 25-16 and 25-19.
Russia took bronze after they beat France 3-0 (25-14, 25-12, 25-18) in the 3/4th place playoff.
South Korea take on Japan for the men's title on Sunday, when the Daegu Universiade drops its curtain.
