The United States said Friday that it will not give in to any blackmail after the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) acknowledged it has nuclear weapons.
"The DPRK statement is an explicit acknowledgement that the DPRK has nuclear weapons, but the United States will not respond to threats or give in to blackmail," State Department spokeswoman Jo-Anne Prokopowicz told reporters.
US State Department confirmed Thursday that DPRK delegation has told six-party talks in Beijing it is preparing to declare itself a nuclear nation and is contemplating testing nuclear weapons.
The United States is pleased about the outcome of six-party talks in Beijing on the Democratic People's Republic of Korea's nuclear issue, she said.
"We are pleased that at the meeting a consensus developed that the multilateral process can advance towards the goal of a peaceful resolution to the North Korea nuclear problem," State Department spokeswoman Jo-Anne Prokopowicz told reporters.
The three-day talks ended in Beijing on Friday with an agreement to meet again within two months but no date or venue was set.
