China will foster ties with Kenya in the field of education, a senior Chinese official said Tuesday.

"The Chinese government considers China-Kenya educational exchanges and cooperation as a significant component of the two countries' relations," said Guo Chongli, Chinese ambassador to Kenya.

He made the remarks at the send-off reception, held in the Chinese embassy in Kenya, for Kenyan students on Chinese government scholarship.

A total of eight Kenyan students have won this year's Chinese government scholarship and are leaving for China soon.

"I believe that more and more Kenyan students will gain opportunity to study in China in the future," Guo said.

Apart from continuing to provide government scholarship for Kenya, the Chinese government and the education community are committed to joining hands with their Kenyan counterparts to advance cooperation between the two countries in this field, the ambassador said.

Guo disclosed that by the end of this year, a delegation composing six vice chancellors from Kenyan public universities will pay a visit to China.

Meanwhile, a Chinese Education Center donated by the Chinese government will finally be settled down in a university in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya.

"For the Chinese embassy, there is no doubt that it will strive to function as a bridge linking the two sides closely," Guo added.

China began to provide government scholarship for Kenya as early as 1982. Currently, there are around 10 Kenyan students to pursue their further study in China every year.
