The State Council Information Office Tuesday morning held a briefing to explain to journalists the "Three Represents" thought of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

The office invited 50 journalists, both Chinese and foreign, to the briefing.

It was the first time the central government had held a briefing on a special topic at the request of the media.

Some foreign journalist told the office they were not familiar with the theory and wanted to know more about it, said Wang Guoqing, deputy director of the office.

He said to hold such explanatory briefings will be a task of the Information Office.

During the briefing, Li Zhongjie, deputy director of the Party History Research Center of the CPC Central Committee, explained the development of the theory, and its significance.
