The Pakistani government said on Monday that it will continue to pursue its "one-China" policy and will not visa "passports" to be annotated with the word "Taiwan" from Sept. 1.
These remarks were made by Pakistani Foreign Ministry spokesman Masood Khan at a weekly news briefing when asked what attitude thePakistani government will take toward the Taiwan authorities' decision to annotate their "passports" with "Taiwan."
"Pakistan is fully committed to its 'one-China' policy and considers Taiwan as an inalienable part of China. The government of Pakistan attaches great importance to China's concerns and respects the strong wish of the Chinese people to safeguard their national sovereignty and territorial integrity," the spokesman stressed.
"Pakistan has always maintained that the government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the whole of China -- the mainland as well as Taiwan.Pakistan can not support any activity that aims at creating 'one China, one Taiwan' or 'two Chinas,'" Masood said.
He added that the Pakistani government has never issued visas on passports issued by Taiwan in the past and "this policy will continue."
It was reported that the Taiwan authorities have announced theywill annotate their "passports" with the word "Taiwan" from Sept. 1. The Chinese government strongly opposes such a decision which aims at splitting China.
