An English-speaking community, the first of the kind in this national capital, has been inaugurated at Dongsi resident district in the city's eastern district.

Dongsi resident district is a neighborhood community with a long history, where the Organizing Committee of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games is located.

According to an official from Dongsi Neighborhood Community Committee, a special ceremony has been held to mark the establishment of New Orient-Dongsi English-speaking Street Community.

Working in cooperation with New Orient Educational Group, the official noted, the committee will organize local residents to learn and familiarize themselves with daily English words, phrases and sentences compiled by the group and encourage them to practice more.

The activity constitutes only one move of a whole range of activities conducted to improve the lingual environment of the community in a bid to build local urbanites' Olympics -- one of the commitments Beijing authorities had made in its endeavor to win the right to host the Olympic Games in 2008.

Two other distinct, vivid features of the Beijing Olympic Games will be the spread of green coverage (afforestation) and increasing use of high-tech citywide.
