Hainan Province in south China issued sea warnings to local residents as typhoon Krovanh, the 12th of the kind this year, reached the eastern part of the South China Sea by 5 a.m. Saturday.
The Hainan Provincial Meteorological Observatory said that the typhoon was centered at the sea 80 km west to the Philippines. It will affect south China's Hainan and Guangdong provinces by Sunday.
Krovanh -- named after a Cambodian tree -- will be moving at 25kph toward the west and approach sea areas off western Guangdong and off eastern Hainan in one day to come, according to the forecast.
The typhoon was grown out of tropical storm Krovanh on Friday morning. By Friday afternoon, the wind at the eye of the storm was monitored to be at force 12, with the speed equivalent to 35 meters per minute, said the observatory.
