Earthquake Leaves 5 Injured, 450 People Homeless in Tibet
A woman was killed in a landslide caused by Monday's earthquake in Medog County, in southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, according to local officials.
Six others were injured in the earthquake -- one in Medog County and five in Bomi County.
The quake, measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale, occurred at 17:03 Beijing time Monday where Medog, Bomi and Nyingchi counties meet (29.6 degrees latitude north, 95.6 degrees longitude east), in eastern Tibet.
Medog County government officials said that three towns in the county have been affected by the earthquake, and most school buildings there have been so badly damaged that classes have had to be suspended.
As Medog is the only county in China that has no highways, relief work there is greatly hampered, according to the officials.
