The 14 freed European hostages aboard a German air force plane arrived in
Germany
on Wednesday morning after captivity in Sahara for six months.
They arrived in Cologne's military airport in western Germany after a six-hour flight from Malian capital Bamako and reunited with their relatives at a hotel nearby.
The 14 Europeans, including nine Germans, four Swiss and one Dutch, were kidnapped in
Algeria
early this year by an extreme Islamic group and were later smuggled to Mali.
The kidnappers reportedly demanded a ransom of 4.6 million euros(5.1 million US Dollars) for each person. But with the help of Algerian and Malian governments, the kidnappers released the hostages Tuesday in Mali.
They were all in good condition.
