EU, NATO Condemn Attack on UN Agency in Baghdad

The European Union (EU) and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) strongly condemned the bombing of the UN headquarters in Baghdad on Tuesday.

The European Union (EU) and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) strongly condemned the bombing of the UN headquarters in Baghdad on Tuesday.

EU's security chief Javier Solana said in a statement that hewas "deeply shocked by this attack." He called it "a despicable act" because it is an attack against people working for Iraq's future and an attack against the international community's determination to reconstruct Iraq.

"The EU strongly supports the UN's important ongoing role inthe reconstruction of Iraq," he said.

NATO's Deputy Secretary-General Minuto Rizzo called the attack"cowardly act" in his statement and offered sympathies to the relatives of the victims of the attack.

The truck bombing, which occurred in the afternoon, killed atleast 15 people and left some 40 others wounded.
