U.S. President George W. Bush has called the DPRK leader Kim Jong Il ''a dangerous man'' and stressed the need for states around the DPRK to press him to abandon his nuclear ambitions, according to an interview transcript released Monday by the White House.

''We know he's a dangerous man. And that's why we take his threats seriously,'' Bush said in an interview with Armed Forces Radio and Television Service that was held last Thursday.

''He loves the idea of, you know, making people nervous and rattling sabers and getting the world all anxious,'' Bush said.

The president reiterated that he wants to solve the nuclear standoff with the DPRK diplomatically and voiced hopes that upcoming six-country talks will pave the way for a resolution.

The six-country talks, scheduled for Aug. 27-29 in Beijing, will bring together the United States, the DPRK, China, Japan, South Korea and Russia.
