Macao Delegation Leaves for Daegu Universiade
A 61-member sports delegation representing Macao Special Administrative Region of China to attend the 22th Universiade, left here on Monday for the South Kerean city of Daegu.
A 61-member sports delegation representing Macao Special Administrative Region of China to attend the 22th Universiade, left here on Monday for the South Kerean city of Daegu.
Led by Vong Iao Lek, acting president of the Macao Sports Development Board, the delegation will take part in five sports including track and field, swimming, judo, fencing and tennis at the Universiade.
The Unversiade will open in Daegu on August 21 for an 11-day run, with a record 171 countries and regions. Over 11,000 athletes,officials and reporters have registered for the event.
Macao's chief executive Edmund Ho Hau Wah gave a moral-boostingto the delegation during a flag-conferring ceremony last Friday.
It will be Macao's 5th appearence at the Universiade. Since there are less than 5,000 university students currently enrolled in universities in Macao, which only has a population of 440,000, Macao was allowed to send five middle school students to take partin the games.
