Bush: Power Needs to be Restored as Soon as Possible
US President George W. Bush said on Thursday that electricity must be restored as soon as possible to the US cities affected by a widespread power blackout.

Bush said that the pressing issue at the moment is to cope the consequences of the power outage and restore power supply as soon as possible.
"I have been working with federal officials to make sure the response to this situation was quick and thorough and I believe ithas been," Bush told reporters at a downtown San Diego hotel during a two-day California trip.
People affected by the massive power blackout may not see theirlives return to normal right away but "slowly but surely we're coping with this massive, national problem," said the US president."We're offering all the help they need to help people cope with the blackout."
He also praised the calm response to the emergency situation from all those affected the power cut, which took place at 4 p.m. local time (2000 GMT) Thursday across the northeastern United States and parts of Canada.
Bush said the outage was not linked to terrorism.
Bush learnt the news of power blackout from Deputy Chief of Staff Joe Hagin while having lunch with Marines at a military basein southern California.
Officials from the White House and National Security Council held a video conference call with officials from the departments of Energy, Homeland Security, Treasury, State, the FBI and other agencies, White House press secretary Scott McClellan said.
