Rescue workers had recovered seven more bodies from a flooded coal mine in Zaozhuang City, east China's Shandong Province, by 6 p.m. Thursday, raising the death toll to 27 with eight people still missing.

Rescuers had to suspend their search in the mine shaft on Wednesday as officials wanted to ensure their safety after spotting signs of probable new floods inside.

They re-entered the mine after experts excluded the possibilityof another underground flooding early Thursday morning.

The mine was flooded at 10:15 p.m. on July 26, trapping 37 miners working underground. Two miners were rescued soon after theaccident.
