The invitation of businesses to attend the seventh China International Fair for Investment and Trade (CIFIT), due to open on Sept. 8 in Xiamen city, in east China's Fujian province, is proceeding smoothly, said Huang Ling, vice mayor of Xiamen, on Thursday.

So far, 126 business groups from over 40 countries and regions have agreed to attend, the same level as a year ago, added Huang.

The outbreak of SARS delayed the start of preparation work for the fair by two months, but the adoption of 10 effective measures, including sending promotion teams abroad and holding seminars, haspaved way for a successful fair, Huang added.

The fair will beef up efforts to introduce investment in financial and logistic sectors, said Huang, adding that a group ofsmall- and medium-sized enterprises with a promising future will seize the opportunity to invite investment to fuel their development.

CIFIT, held annually in Xiamen since 1997, is the only nationwide international fair with a focus on the use of overseas investment.
