UN Major Powers Reach Consensus on US Resolution on Iraq
The five permanent members of the UN Security Council on Wednesday reached consensus on the final text of a US-drafted resolution seeking the council's acknowledgment of the Iraqi Governing Council, diplomatic sources in the UN said.
The five permanent members of the UN Security Council on Wednesday reached consensus on the final text of a US-drafted resolution seeking the council's acknowledgment of the Iraqi Governing Council, diplomatic sources in the UN said.
The final version of the draft "welcomes" the establishment of the Iraqi Governing Council as an "important" step toward the formation of an internationally recognized Iraqi government, the sources said.
The agreement was reached after a meeting of experts from China,Russia, Britain, France and the United States.
