An acid test of the bearing capacity of China's power grid is over as heat recedes in many parts of China, relieving pressure on the grid.
China's power grid produced 5.27 billion kwh of electricity Tuesday, a drop of more than 10 percent from the peak day of July 29, said sources with the State Grid Corporation, which is responsible for national electricity transmission.
As air temperature and electricity consumption drop, power supply to hotels, restaurants, large shopping stores, supermarkets and entertainment businesses have returned to normal level in the Yangtze River Delta in east China, one of China's most prosperous areas.
In earlier power shortages, regional governments had mostly adopted policies of limiting power consumption by business to ensure adequate power supply to local residents.
